The other day I dropped Little Girl off at the babysitter’s. I was a little early arriving for my 11 AM appointment so I sat a while in the waiting room. The room was filled with peace lilies, violets, and ivy, and the air was strongly scented of of pumpkin spice by candles. There were a few silly Halloween decorations but they didn’t detract from the calm atmosphere. I was given a questionnaire and then I checked out some magazines.
Soon I was called back to a semi-private cubicle. The big window showed a host of trees. I lay down, a towel draped over me, and the attendant gently got to work–sometimes it was a little uncomfortable or awkward, but it was relaxing all the same. The sounds all around of women murmuring, of falling water, of the slight whirring of gadgetry, and the soundtrack of country music were very calming. I nearly nodded off, enjoying the rare time during the day to be alone with my thoughts, to sit still.
Then I had to sit up to gargle the fluoride treatment.

Ha! I always think going to get my teeth cleaned will be no big deal and am always surprised by how unpleasant I find it. My teeth are highly sensitive to cold, so the water alone is excruciating. No nodding off here, but I’m glad you found it so relaxing!

*lol* I can totally relate! I think my root canal when Erik was 9 months old was one of the most calming two hours of my life.

You are strange. The dentist is horrible. HORRIBLE!
